Charter School Accountability!

As taxpayer-funded schools, charter schools must be held to the same standards of accountability, transparency, and equity as traditional district public schools. Remember that Charter Schools for profit take money from the Public Schools.

Here in Ohio, Republicans just gave Charter Schools $1.6 billion with no oversight. Many, if not all, owners of Charter Schools know they have to fund Republican election campaigns because of what they were given. They will use and donate some of the $1.6 billion that they received. This is why Republican leadership didn’t want any oversight of the money—no trail to follow for the kickbacks they will receive as donations. The Republicans at the state level never work for free. Just ask FirstEnergy and the Haslam family. It has always been pay-to-play.

Is this the dumbing down of America? Have State Legislators broken the law?

Article VI, Section 2 | School funds Ohio Constitution

The General Assembly shall make such provisions, by taxation or otherwise, as, with the income arising from the school trust fund, will secure a thorough and efficient system of common schools throughout the state, but no religious or other sect, or sects, shall ever have any exclusive right to, or control of, any part of the school funds of this state.

Provision shall be made by law for the organization, administration and control of the public school system of the state supported by public funds: provided, that each school district embraced wholly or in part within any city shall have the power by referendum vote to determine for itself the number of members and the organization of the district board of education, and provision shall be made by law for the exercise of this power by such school districts.

But what the state Republican leaders can afford is $600 million for the Cleveland Browns.
